Blind Spot Warning
Assists the driver to avoid a collision by detecting vehicles in the blind spot area when changing lanes
When the system detects a vehicle driving in an adjacent lane approaching the rear of the driver's vehicle - a common blind spot area, it notifies the driver with an indicator. If the driver activates the turn signal in this situation, the system alerts the driver with a chime and continuously flashes the indicator light to assist the driver in avoiding a collision.
System operation
- When a radar sensor on the rear bumper detects a vehicle in the blind spot area of an adjacent lane to the driver's vehicle, an indicator light near the side mirror illuminates to alert the driver.
- Under the same conditions as stated above (1), if the driver activates the turn signal for the same side as an approaching vehicle, the system alerts the driver with a chime. In addition, the indicator light near the side mirror closest to the intended lane flashes to alert the driver.
System mechanism (components)
The system utilizes radar sensors located on the sides of the rear bumper to detect vehicles in adjacent detection zones. In some models, the system utilizes a rear-mounted camera to detect vehicles in adjacent detection zones.
- The Blind Spot Warning System is not a substitute for proper lane change procedures. The system will not prevent contact with other vehicles or accidents. It may not detect every vehicle or object around you. Drivers should always drive safely and never rely wholly on the system.
